For their fascinating research, Dr. M. Linda Sutherland and Dr. Giuseppe Barisano made use of an image analysis tool provided by the Population Imaging Flagship Node Rotterdam via the Euro-BioImaging network. In particular, a custom ImageJ plugin was provided for the analysis of intracranial arteriosclerosis. The group applied the plugin on brain CT scans of a native Bolivian population of 1,000 individuals to test their hypothesis that calcification of the intracranial internal carotid artery can be related to dementia.
